Summary
Thank You Ma'am by Langston Hughes, is set in Harlem, a community in New York. the CHARACTERS are Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones who is stern yet immensely generous and ROGERS WHO is a frail, young boy. the story is About teenage boy tries to steal the purse of a woman at night on the street To get so blue suede shoes. but instead of calling the POLICE she takes the boy home, feeds him, and teaches him something about her and the DIFFERENCE between right and wrong. The main themes of the story a little kindness goes a long way.
Protagonist
The Protagonist in the book is Mrs. Jones because she is the main and strong character in the story.

I chose Emma Thompson the actress of Miss Trunchbul from the new Matilda movie. The reason I picked her is she had to play a big strong woman and she did it very well.
In the beginning of the story the boy tried to steal her bag. Instead of being scared she, "...reached down, picked the boy up by his shirt front, and shook him until his teeth rattled"(Hughes 1). I chose her because Miss Trunchbul would have done the same. a=same thing to her students .
Antagonist
In the beginning Roger was caught by the woman and push on the floor and she was trying to get some information about him."There’s nobody home at my house"said the boy"(Hughes 2) and so I chose him because he would have the emotion, honesty, and power that the boy has.
I chose Walker Scobell the actor in The Adam Project. The reason I picked him is he is a strong and very talented actor and I feel he will play the part very well.
The Antagonist in the book is the homeless boy Roger.
THeme
A little kindness goes a long was
The theme in the story is that kindness goes a long way because in the ending of the story the woman brings the young frail boy to her home and shows him small act of kindness that change him,"Thank you, m’am” to Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones, "(Hughes 3). This shows how in shock he was when she showed him the smallest act of kindness and treated him like a person.
